Interview 2
As we decided to broaden up our perspective, we needed more information from our case owner. We planned a follow-up interview with them. For this, we prepared questions that were more specific, focusing on other challenges they face due to their neck pain, their medical conditions and their design preferences. Additionally, we prepared questions that dive deeper into their laptop issue. Through this interview, we aimed to gain a deeper understanding of their struggles and identify any potential design challenges.
Our case owner experiences discomfort when sitting still in a ‘’forced position’’ and especially struggles with traditional laptops due to their low screen height. While elevating the laptop is an option, this makes it difficult to type, and using a separate keyboard creates other issues. This leads to the screen being places too far away, making it hard to see. Besides the laptop issue, the neck pain also affects other aspects of their daily life, such as looking for ragworts in a meadow, where they need to look down, or biking where maintaining a static position can be difficult. They have problems with activities that require prolonged static postures such as attending concerts or using a backpack. Regarding design preferences, they prefer functionality and do not mind complexity. During the interview, we consistently circled back to the biggest issue, which is the laptop. This shows that the primary need of our case owner is a laptop with a screen that can be easily adjusted.
